When it comes to data centers and server rooms, having the right equipment is critical to success. That's why I was excited to test out the Rackmount Sliding Rails from Tupavco. These sliding rails are designed to fit a variety of rack-mountable devices, including server cases, making it easier for technicians to access equipment when necessary. Here's what I found when testing out the Tupavco TP1811:
Installation
One of the things I love about these sliding rails is how easy they are to install. The manufacturer advertises that the installation process is toolless, and they weren't exaggerating. Everything you need to get started is included in the package, and the rails themselves snap right into place once the rear posts are adjusted to the proper depth. Overall, installation shouldn't take more than a few minutes, which is great news for anyone who values their time.
Design
The Tupavco sliding rails are a standard two-post design, which means that they can be used with any standard rack or cabinet. I appreciate that the manufacturer kept this feature in mind, since it makes these rails extremely versatile. The maximum load capacity for the rails is 70 pounds, which should suffice for most mounted devices. However, if you have heavier equipment, you may need to look into purchasing a different set of sliding rails.
One thing to note is that these rails are temporarily lockable at three stages. This may be a benefit for some users, but it can also be annoying if you accidentally hit the lever and lock the rails when you didn't intend to. Additionally, the plastic handle for detaching the device from the rails feels somewhat flimsy and could easily break with repeated use.
Functionality
So far, I've been pleased with the design and installation of these sliding rails. But what about their actual functionality? In short, I've found them to be solid and reliable. There's a bumper at the rear of the rails to keep them from moving when they're in the retracted position, and the ball bearing sliding mechanism is smooth and precise. I appreciate that the rails themselves have adjustable depth, since this makes it easier to use them with a variety of devices.
There are a few caveats to keep in mind, however. First, the slide length is 18 inches with an additional 18 inches when the slide is fully extended. While this should be sufficient for many use cases, it may not be long enough for larger devices. Additionally, it's worth noting that the device mounted on the rails must be at least 10 inches in length. If you have shorter equipment, these sliding rails may not be the best option for you.
Customer Reviews
Before purchasing any product, it's always worth checking out what other customers have to say about it. As of writing this review, the Tupavco Rackmount Sliding Rails have a 3.4 out of 5-star rating on Amazon, based on three customer reviews. While this isn't the most glowing rating, I do think it's important to keep in mind that there are only three reviews to go off of. Additionally, one of the reviewers mentioned that they had trouble getting their equipment to fit properly on the rails, but this may have been an isolated incident.
Overall Impressions
After testing out the Tupavco Rackmount Sliding Rails, I'm impressed with their ease of use and overall functionality. While there are a few minor quirks to keep in mind, such as the temporarily lockable lever and the length limitations, I think they're a solid option for anyone in need of sliding rails for their mounted devices. The fact that they're compatible with any standard rack is a major selling point, as is the ease of installation. All in all, I'd recommend these sliding rails to anyone in the market for a reliable and versatile option.
