Happy Balls PBT Keycaps Backlit - Review

As someone who spends hours a day typing away on their mechanical keyboard, one of my favorite ways to personalize and elevate my typing experience is by swapping out my keycaps. Recently, I had the pleasure of trying out the Happy Balls PBT Keycaps Backlit Pudding Keycap Set in White and was thoroughly impressed.

First off, the set comes with 108 standard ANSI layout keycaps, along with 4 additional iso layout keycaps and a keycap holder. This set is specifically designed to fit most 61/87 TKL/104/108 mx switches mechanical keyboards, so compatibility shouldn't be an issue for most users. However, it's worth noting that some non-standard US layout mechanical keyboards may not be able to use this keyset.

The keycaps themselves are made out of doubleshot shine through PBT material, meaning that the patterns on the keys will not wear off over time. One of my biggest pet peeves with some keycaps is that the letters and symbols can become almost completely faded after a few months of use, but with this set, that's not a concern.

One thing that really stood out to me about the Happy Balls keycaps is their thickness and height. At roughly 1mm thick, they feel substantial under my fingers while typing. Additionally, the keys are OEM profile, which I've found to be comfortable even after long periods of typing. I appreciate that the set also includes iso layout keycaps, which is great for those who prefer that type of setup.

Of course, one of the biggest selling points for this set is its design. The white pudding style is a translucent mix of white and clear keycaps that allow for RGB backlighting to shine through. As someone who enjoys a pop of color on their keyboard, this was a huge draw for me. The backlighting adds a really nice touch of personality to my typing setup while also making it easier to type in low-light environments.

In terms of installation, the keycaps are easy to pop on and off with the included keycap puller. It took me less than 15 minutes to swap out all of my keys for the new set. I appreciate that Happy Balls thought to include a keycap holder to keep everything organized and easily accessible.
