EVGA PowerLink Review: Streamline Your PC's Cable Management
As someone who has built and reviewed dozens of gaming PCs, I know firsthand just how frustrating cable management can be. Bundles of cables can get in the way of airflow, obstruct access to components, and just generally make the interior of your case look like a rat's nest. That's why I was excited to try out the EVGA PowerLink, a cable management solution that promises to make your life easier and your PC's interior more streamlined.
Installation
To start off, let's talk about installation. The EVGA PowerLink comes with a few different components, including the PowerLink itself, a few cables, and a handful of adjustable clips for securing your cables in place. The instructions are straightforward, and I had no trouble getting everything set up. The hardest part was probably removing my graphics card from my PC, but that's just a side effect of my particular setup.
Once I had the PowerLink installed and my graphics card reseated, I was impressed by how much cleaner my PC's interior looked. Instead of a tangle of cables that had to be bent and routed around my graphics card, everything was neatly organized right next to the connector.
Compatibility
One thing to note is that the EVGA PowerLink is specifically designed for EVGA graphics cards. However, it also supports all NVIDIA Founders Edition cards, as well as a variety of other models including the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti/2080/2070*/2060*/Super*/GTX 1660 Ti*/1660*/1650/1080 Ti/1080/1070 Ti/1070/1060. That covers a lot of ground, but if you have a graphics card from a different manufacturer, you may not be able to use the PowerLink.
Adjustability
The other key feature of the EVGA PowerLink is its adjustability. Rather than just having a fixed set of cable connectors, the PowerLink allows you to adjust the spacing between each connector. This makes it easier to route your cables exactly where you need them to go, and helps to ensure that you don't have any tight bends that could restrict airflow.
Solid State Capacitors
Another feature that I found interesting is that the EVGA PowerLink comes with integrated solid state capacitors. These help to filter the power going to your graphics card, potentially improving performance and stability. This is a nice bonus, but I have to admit that I didn't notice any tangible difference in my gaming performance after installing the PowerLink.
Customer Reviews
When researching the EVGA PowerLink, I noticed that it has a solid 4.4 out of 5 stars rating on Amazon, with nearly 2,400 reviews. Most customers seem to agree that the PowerLink makes cable management much easier, and that the adjustability is a valuable feature. Some reviewers did note that the installation can be a bit tricky, however.
Wrap Up
Overall, I think the EVGA PowerLink is a great solution for anyone looking to improve their PC's cable management. It's well-designed, easy to install, and offers plenty of flexibility when it comes to routing your cables. While the integrated solid state capacitors may not make a huge difference in gaming performance, they're still a nice bonus. If you have an EVGA or NVIDIA Founders Edition graphics card, the PowerLink is definitely worth considering.
