Honest review and information

As a professional photographer who shoots with Canon gear, I was excited to try out the new Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens. I've been a fan of the 24-105mm range for years, so I was curious to see how it would perform with the new EOS R system.

First impressions out of the box were great - the lens felt well-built and sturdy, with all the usual high-quality components you would expect from Canon. The size and weight were both reasonable, and overall it felt like a lens that would hold up well out on location or in the studio.

When mounted on the EOS R body, the lens felt balanced and comfortable to use, with all the control rings and buttons within easy reach. One of the standout features of this lens is the control ring, which allows you to adjust settings such as aperture or ISO directly on the lens itself. This is a welcome addition for anyone who, like me, finds themselves constantly adjusting settings on the fly.

In terms of image quality, the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM certainly delivers. The images are sharp and crisp, with excellent color reproduction and contrast. I particularly noticed the sharpness towards the center of the frame, even when shooting wide open at f/4, which is pretty impressive for a zoom lens. The bokeh, or background blur, is also pleasingly creamy and smooth, making it a great lens for portraits or shallow depth-of-field shots.

One of the neat things about this lens is that it's also the first in the L-series to feature Nano USM, Canon's latest focusing technology. The autofocus is snappy and accurate, and I noticed very little hunting or hesitation even in low-light conditions. The manual focus ring is also nice and smooth, making it easy to fine-tune your focus if needed.

The other big selling point of this lens is the image stabilization, which Canon claims can provide up to 5 stops of shake correction. In my testing, I found this to be accurate - I was able to shoot handheld at relatively slow shutter speeds and still get sharp images. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your shooting style and technique, but it's definitely a great feature to have.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens. It's a versatile, high-quality zoom lens that's well-suited to a wide range of shooting situations. Whether you're a wedding photographer who needs to capture both wide group shots and intimate portraits, or a travel photographer who wants a single lens that can handle everything from landscapes to street scenes, this lens is definitely worth considering.

Of course, like any lens, there are a few cons to consider. Firstly, the maximum aperture of f/4 isn't particularly wide, which may limit your ability to create really shallow depth-of-field shots or shoot in very low light. The lens is also relatively expensive, which may put it out of reach for some photographers. Finally, the size and weight may be a consideration if you're looking for a more compact setup.

Overall, though, these are relatively minor issues when you consider the many benefits of this lens. If you're in the market for a high-quality zoom lens for your EOS R system, the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens is definitely worth checking out.
